Why Summer Is the Perfect Time to Start Paleo

Truth be told, any season of the year is a great time to start a Paleo diet. It’s never too late to take charge of your health and well-being. However, here are four reasons why summer, specifically, is the perfect time to dive in headfirst to the Paleo lifestyle.

  1. Summer is a great time for outdoor activity.

The warmth of the summer days permits more outdoor exercise, from hiking to strolling around the lake in your hometown with a friend. The more active you are, the more you’ll place an emphasis on what you’re putting in your body - which will help you stay on track in choosing more wholesome, energizing foods!

On hikes or bike rides, bring along Base Culture snacks such as energy bites and sticky granola.

  1. It’s harvest season!

When summer comes, fresh produce abounds! Late summer in particular is great for fresh grown leafy greens, but the summer months produce the most nutritious and juicy fruits and vegetables, making it easier than ever to focus on the tenets of the Paleo eating diet. Grill some homegrown summer squash, or enjoy fresh cut watermelon for an afternoon snack. These plentiful options make it easier to focus on what you can eat rather than lamenting what you gave up.

Harvest season also presents a great opportunity to start gardening! Imagine how easy and fresh it will be to grow fresh produce in your backyard.

  1. More time to meal-prep.

Calling all college students! Meal prep can simplify things tremendously when starting out the Paleo diet, which can be difficult to start when in the dorms or busy with classes. Summer often brings forth more time abundance and convenience, so the Paleo lifestyle can be a priority rather than something to be juggled between classes, extracurriculars, and studying.

When the fall rolls around again, apartments and dorms can be stocked with easy, on-the-go paleo snacks, such as Base Culture’s individually packaged mini Banana Bread or Nutty Pumpkin Bread.

  1. No winter holidays!

Finally, aside from the 4th of July, summer is relatively holiday-free, which means you are less likely to come up against temptations such as holiday cookies or your aunt’s famous creamy mashed potatoes at the Thanksgiving table. Without temptations, the focus can remain on the lifestyle itself, and how energized you feel by focusing solely on all-natural foods. This way, by the time the holidays do roll around, temptations won’t phase you as much… and even if they do, Base Culture’s gingerbread almond butter will be there for you.
